IN ONE OF THE STATES LEADING GRAIN AND CATTLE PRODUCING AREAS.
8km N of Delungra, 40km W of Inverell and 110km E of Moree.
Inverell, ‘The Sapphire City’, is the regional centre for Gunnee and provides a wide range of facilities, including saleyards and abattoirs. 1,000m airstrip on the property with hangar.
Ranges from rich alluvial creek frontages through easterly aspect mostly arable slopes country, to low hills. Mainly deep strong dark brown to black self mulching basalt soils with small areas of red basalt and lighter soils.
Well over 4,000 acres (1,700ha) has been farmed with high yielding crops of wheat, barley, sorghum and green chop forage. The balance is excellent grazing country, with local native summer and winter grasses and herbages – some under sown with lucerne, Arrowleaf clover and woolly pod vetch.
Original timber included apple, myall and kurrajongs. Generally strategic shade and shelter trees remain – mostly on the grazing country.
Secure water supplies are sourced from Warialda and Boundary Creeks which run through Gunnee, generally providing double frontage. Two electrically equipped bores with licenced extraction of 250 MgL per year, bores with mills, a 250 MgL storage dam supported by industrial licence to extract 376 MgL per year, 2 large turkey nest dams plus paddock dams ensure stock and domestic supply. Approval pending for an additional 220 MgL dam.
Also a new stock water supply from the Warialda Creek – pumping to a 370,000 litre storage tank and reticulating to troughs in the centre of the property.
Rainfall averages 725mm – 29 inches per annum.
Approx 100 acres (40 ha) of irrigation under centre pivot.
Well fenced for farming and grazing with a total of 28 main paddocks.
