Wilderness

Imagine just waking on a cool clear morning in your rustic mountain lodge. Silence - peace - tranquility. Mist gently shrouds the mountainsides. A chorus of chuckling kookaburras reverberates through the bush, greeting the sun’s first rays as they break the high tops of surrounding ridges, softly filtering light to the valley floor below.

Hookes Creek Forest Retreat comfortably accommodates 40 guests.

There are ten well designed and appointed timber cottages, plus a 4 bedroom homestead. All feature western redwood cedar external finishes with exposed tallow wood flooring internally. Cottages have comfortable beds, large bathrooms with king-sized spas, winter heating from log fires and gas heaters, together with satellite television, telephones etc.

The Homestead is a self-contained accommodation with three double bedrooms and a bunkroom, gourmet kitchen, open living areas and full laundry – which is ideal for the family.

The Barn (to be rebranded as The Bower) Restaurant is the hub of the Retreat. A meeting place for a quiet drink at the bar, to chill out in a lounge in front of an open crackling fire, or to shoot some stick at the pool table.

Dining in the restaurant is an informal, but delicious affair! Top notch chefs whip up fresh country produce into gastronomic delights for Retreat guests or the public to enjoy.

Last year we had the most wonderful 6 day stay at Hookes Creek as part of a longer tour of Australia from Brisbane to Sydney and Melbourne. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of our entire holiday and if only we didn’t live so far away, we would go there more often. The setting is beautiful, the accommodation extremely comfortable and the food is outstanding. All the staff are so friendly and helpful and they couldn’t do enough for us. We really didn’t want to leave when the 6 days were up. It was truly memorable and we hope to return one day.
