The History
The Rowe family arrived in Australia in 1841 and took up the Naringal Run, of approx. 12,000 acres, later that year. The pre-emptive right of 640 acres, upon which the homestead is built, was granted in 1857.
The original slab hut has been rebuilt and remains a landmark today.
The family cemetery was first used in c 1860’s and will remainthe property of the family, apart from the sale.
Naringal Station
The sale of Naringal represents the sale of one of Victoria’s longest held rural holdings – taken up in 1841, and held by the family for 170 years.

Area

Country
Principally alluvial loams and well drained rich volcanic basalt plains, with small areas of granite outcrop along the perennial Naringhil Creek, which traverses the length of the property. Over 80% (1,050 ha) is arable and has been cropped over time, with the balance soft pastured grazing country, with mainly established clovers and phalaris. This year approx. up to 800 ha (2,000 ac) will be sown to cereal crops, on a share farming basis, with the vendor’s share given in.
Naringal has a strong top dressing history.
Water & Rainfall
Approximately 620mm per annum rainfall, evenly distributed throughout the year. The water on Naringal is reliable, with principally large dams (including 40,000m3 Swan dam), the perennial Naringhil Creek which waters 9 paddocks, and an equipped bore.
Timber
Principally mature sugar gums and Tasmanian blue gums – in recent years over 40,000 more sugar gums and other natives have been established in plantations, providing excellent livestock shelter and a cash investment for the future.

Livestock & Cropping Enterprises
Rated at 4 dse per acre (10 dse per ha) – 13,100 dse, with continued top dressing and pasture work, Naringal has run up to 14,000 sheep including 4,000 fine wool Merino ewes, wethers, replacements etc. plus cropping and some cattle.
Renowned for its sheep and wool production, it is also excellent cattle and cropping country.
THE HOMESTEAD
Naringal Homestead
Located on one of the highest points of the property the homestead is surrounded by a wooded area and set in over 2 ha of Edna Walling designed irrigated gardens, established in 1952. Included in the gardens is the tear drop shaped swimming pool, en tout cas tennis court and croquet lawn.
Following a disastrous fire in 1944 the original homestead (c.1904) was rebuilt on the same site. This architecturally designed home with its Georgian features remains a delightful country homestead with central courtyard, excellent natural light throughout and views from all the main rooms in to the gardens.

Naringal Gardens
The extensive gardens, featuring large expanses of irrigated lawns and easy care gardens with mature trees, and micro-gardens with borders of helibores, roses, bulbs, the rose walk, herb garden, and vegetable garden, are all surrounded by the Naringal woods, which allow the sun and light in to the garden, but retain absolute privacy for the Rowe family.
