Historic landmark Upper Hunter Valley rural property Baerami House was passed in at auction yesterday and is now for sale privately through the marketing agents Meares & Associates, with an asking price of $4.2 million.

Undoubtedly one of the historic rural properties in the Hunter Valley area Baerami House dates back to the 1830’s when it was taken up by well known pastoralist at the time, Emmanuel Hungerford. It was during the ownership of son Thomas that the two storey Baerami Homestead was built in 1875 with sandstone quarried on site and featuring magnificent red cedar joinery, together with 13 foot high ceilings throughout. After a further series of recognised owners, including the nearby Martindale White family, the remaining Baerami Estate was subdivided and sold by auction in 1926 to 19 separate purchasers. The present owners subsequently purchased the Homestead farm comprising 797 acres (322 ha) some 17 years ago.

The northeast facing two storey classic Georgian style sandstone homestead surrounded by wide verandahs on both levels, is undoubtedly the ‘jewel in the crown’ - providing an excellent standard of country living with its large formal sitting/library, separate formal dining room, 4 spacious bedrooms with 2.5 bathrooms all with open fireplaces, and the renovated kitchen area. Adjoining the homestead is a self-contained 3 bedroom weatherboard cottage together with an attached studio/office, overlooking the inground pool.
