About The Southern Highlands

Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands is approximately 110 kilometres (70 mi) southwest of the Sydney in the Wingecarribee Shire. The district is centred around the townships of Mittagong, Bowral, Berrima and Moss Vale.

Being on the Great Dividing Range the Wingecarribee Shire is an important catchment area for water supply to Sydney, Wollongong and the Northern Shoalhaven.

Its cool climate and rich soils produce excellent fresh food and has a rich agriculture, cattle, sheep and dairying history back to the early 1800’s.

The Southern Highlands is also considered a wine region, with its cool climate and high altitude vineyards producing world class cool climate wines.

Part of the attraction of the Southern Highlands is its seasonal changes which has made it a popular destination for visitors year round.
